The Yushikan Dojo was founded by C. Michial Jones Sensei on January 2, 1994, as a place for him to share the Okinawan arts he has studied since 1977.

Our dojo is currently a private dojo and therefore not just anyone can join the dojo. New students must either be recommended by a member or make an application for membership. If you visit our dojo, you will find it to be unique in style and spirit. The energy and enthusiasm of our classes and the beauty of our dojo will transform your idea of a martial arts experience.

We teach Okinawan Gojuryu Karate-do and Ryukyu Dento Kobujutsu. Okinawan Gojuryu is an authentic fighting art which originated in Okinawa, Japan, the birth place of karate. This style was developed by the famous karate master, Chojun Miyagi and has been passed on in an unbroken lineage, largely in it’s original form.

Ryukyu Dento Kobudo translates to Ryukyu Traditional Ancient Martial Art, Jones Sensei trained in the popular Matayoshi style of Kobudo, as well as, the rare Ufuchiku style of Kobudo. We have an unbroken lineage going back to the founders of both methods of kobudo.

The training you will receive at the Yushikan Dojo embodies the spirit and honor of those who have made karate and kobudo a proud and strong tradition.

The Yushikan dojo has the distinction to serve as the USA headquarters for the Okinawa Gojuryu Karate-do Goeikai under Grandmaster Kenei Shimabukuro Hanshi 10th Dan. We also serve as the world headquarters for both the Sekai Budo Hozonkai (World Martial Arts Preservation Society) and World Gojuryu Karate Alliance (a 503c Non-Profit).
